ABATE of SC Announces 2006 Legislative Warrior Day
( Columbia) – Each year members of ABATE of South Carolina travel from across the state to be at the Statehouse in Columbia on opening day of the new legislative session. ABATE, A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments, describes its “Legislative Warrior Day” as an annual rally of utmost importance to all South Carolina motorcyclists that are concerned about protecting individual liberty and freedom in the Palmetto State.
“It is an unfortunate fact that hardworking, taxpaying, fiercely independent Americans living in South Carolina need to maintain constant vigilance over our constitutional and inalienable rights,” says Ed Haas, ABATE of SC Media Coordinator. “With so many paid lobbyists pumping smoke into the house and senate chambers each legislative session, somebody has to serve as messengers of South Carolina’s common voice to our state representatives and senators. That’s why our membership shows up at the statehouse on the first day of each new legislative session and numerous other times throughout the year; to be the voice of everyday people who don’t agree with most of what the paid lobbyists are selling to our lawmakers.”
“This year ABATE of SC has many concerns that we need the SC legislators to address,” says Dennis Welborn, ABATE of SC Legislative Coordinator. “Our proposals are rooted in commonsense and should not be objectionable to any state lawmaker. It is hard to imagine why most if not all of our proposals do not become law in 2006.” Examples of legislation that ABATE members will ask their state representative and senator to sponsor include, but are not limited to:
- Failure to yield right of way legislation
- Property tax on motorcycles
- Repeal handlebar height restrictions
- Anti-discrimination legislation for motorcyclists
- Mandatory testing after fatal accidents
“As with every ABATE Rally or Event, everyone is welcome to come out and support our efforts. All makes and models of motorcycles and all ages of riders is what our organization is all about. We actually have members in our organization that do not ride motorcycles and probably never will, but they join us in our fight to preserve all of our rights, just the same,” says Fred Ruddock, ABATE of SC State Coordinator. “We hope to fill the statehouse on January 10 th with concerned bikers and patriotic Americans so that our lawmakers can hear directly from the South Carolina voter rather than the canned and often exaggerated‘will of the people’ that the 800 plus, paid lobbyists will be selling once again this year.”
ABATE members and supporters will begin to assemble at the statehouse on January 10, 2006 at 9:00a.m.
